Stathos and the two juggernauts escorted Truss back out of the caverns of Molgathra, up through the sand, and back to the peak of the sand dune that they had been on before descending into the caves.

“You can jump from here.” Stathos said after stopping suddenly. Truss realized that the enormous hand that had been around his neck on the journey in and out of the buried stronghold was now gone. He looked to the right and left and both of the war giants were nowhere to be seen. That was a cool trick, he wished he knew how to do it.

Free of his guards, Truss observed his surroundings. It was the same desert sand that they previously stood on. The night air was cooler than when they had burrowed into the ground. The moon was not out but the light glint of starlight rimmed Stathos’ silhouette.

Stathos now stood facing Truss. He spoke again. “The Archetype has paid you an incredible honor by choosing you to assist in her plan.” Finally being free of the caves, Truss felt the urge to speak freely.

“What about my vision? She didn’t offer any answers.” Truss said as he watched Stathos’ face intently. He thought he saw a wave of frustration move across Stathos’ face, but then subside. He had the sense that this interaction was taking incredible self control on the part of this dark cloaked stranger.

“The Archetype is wise and her ways are sound.” Stathos said with an air of uninterested avoidance.

Stathos did not seem to be very keen on offering up information and this was altogether strange to Truss. He felt the puzzle pieces spinning and trying to fit together in his mind. Why would anyone need to avoid questions unless they were hiding something? The thought almost seemed like a light in the distance of his mind. Was it possible that these creatures were not what they seemed to be?

“Why do you not answer questions directly?” Truss said without a pause. This direct approach caught Stathos harshly as if he had taken a blow across the chin. His eyes deepened with dark brooding for a short second but as if he was choking down the taste of bile he slowed his breath and regained control.

Truss thought of the myriad mysteries of this strange personage. He seemed to be so intensely volatile. What type of environment could produce such an alien strain of entities? The Archetype had talked of wars. Truss thought that this must be the root of their deep boiling temperament.

Stathos looked up at the night sky. Truss watched him as he scanned the stars that were visible. When Stathos found what he was looking for he pulled his voluminous black sleeve halfway up his arm and pointed into the night sky. It was too dark to see the copious scars that marked the surface of his skin.

“See the star there?” He extended his index finger of his right hand, he then made a V with his left hand fingers, and said “look.
